SURREY GETS CONNECTED AT HERITAGE BUSINESS CENTRE

06-07-2005

A heritage building owned and operated by Parallel Business Centres (PBC) was chosen to host the launch of a major new public/private partnership promoting the use of ICT and Broadband in Surrey.

‘Connected Surrey’ officially started work at Fetcham Park House, near Leatherhead, a business centre which combines classic architecture with cutting edge communications technology.

Surrey has close to 100% Broadband availability but take up is still less that 30%. Connected Surrey aims to improve the county’s social and economic landscape through increased Broadband use.  Under the leadership of the Surrey Economic Partnership, it brings together key players in the county including BT, Business Link Surrey, Guildford Borough Council, Institute of Directors, South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), Surrey Chambers of Commerce, Surrey Community Action, Surrey County Council, Surrey Economic Partnership, Surrey Learning and Skills Council and University of Surrey.

Announcing a series of initiatives to encourage Broadband use at the launch, Connected Surrey’s Chairman Nigel Horton-Baker said that the partnership offered an excellent opportunity to make the many benefits of Broadband available to businesses, residents, learners and communities across Surrey. Connected Surrey will operate for two years, with SEEDA funding.

Commenting on the launch, Parallel Business Centres managing director Sandra Leslie said: "We were pleased to help promote Broadband in Surrey. Operating from heritage buildings like 300-year-old Fetcham Park House does not stop our clients having access to 21st century communications. In fact a Parallel Business Centre is where tradition and technology meet."

Over the past 15 years, Parallel Business Centres have achieved exceptional occupancy levels by offering high-quality serviced business accommodation in listed buildings, on flexible terms which allow companies to fix costs and minimise property risks. The Wilky Group, of which PBC is part, also owns Cams Hall, Fareham and Parallel House in the heart of Guildford.
